FD school support dance coming
The Fort Dodge Community School District Foundation will have its 13th annual dinner and dance Saturday.
The event is the biggest fundraiser for the foundation, according to Angie Tracy, foundation president.
“It’s our main fundraiser,” Tracy said. “All the funds we receive from the dinner dance goes directly back to the district.”
Twice a year, FDCSD teachers and employees are allowed to send requests to the foundation, which then looks at those requests and decides where the needs are greatest. The funds granted benefit the district’s staff.
“We try to stretch the dollars the furthest to help the most kids we can, the most students,” Tracy said.
The dinner dance, a casual dress event open to the community, features a buffet dinner, live and silent auctions, and live entertainment, this year in the form of Planet Rock.
“It’s a fun night,” Tracy said. “It’s a good time to be with your friends and celebrate our students and our educators. It’s a great time.”
The event raises for the foundation between $30,000 to $45,000, Tracy said.
“The district budget doesn’t allow for a lot of the things the teachers do want, and this is just an extra way we can get those things their budgets don’t cover,” she said. “We’ve helped purchase IT equipment, playground equipment, books. We’ve purchased kayaks and bicycles for the physical education program. We’ve upgraded computer labs at a few of the grade schools.”
The real purpose of the fundraiser, Tracy said, is to help the students of Fort Dodge.
“We just like to touch as many kids as we can,” she said. “We want the dollars to go further.”
Jennifer Lane, FDCSD director of communications, said the district is appreciative of the group’s efforts.
“I think the dinner dance they put on is fabulous,” Lane said. “The foundation is a very supportive group of the school and we appreciate everything they do. The dinner dance is really fun, and we encourage people to enjoy a night on the town and support your school at the same time.”
The FDCSD Foundation dinner and dance will be Saturday at the Best Western Starlite Village Inn & Suites at 6 p.m.
Tickets are $25 per person in advance and $30 at the door. The cost includes appetizers and all-night, unlimited dessert table. Tickets can be purchased at the FDCSD main office at 104 S. 17th St.
