PERRY – Competing against five other volleyball teams, Fort Dodge placed third at the Perry Invitational on Tuesday.

The Dodgers (11-23 overall) went 2-1 on the night, downing Ballard (24-26, 25-14 and 15-9) and the host Bluejays (25-18 and 25-17). FDSH suffered its lone setback to Roland-Story (21-9 and 21-14).

Seniors Lexi Astor (17 kills and 22 digs), Ashley Altman (24 digs and 12 kills), Tiana Mericle (nine blocks and 11 kills), Maddie Egli (39 assists and 13 digs) and Maci Knutson (23-for-23 serving) led the way for the Dodgers.

“I was proud of the way we bounced back and got some wins,” said FDSH head coach Tonia Burrell. “We had a lot of people step up for us like Tiana, Rachel Herrington and Hannah Hughes. Hopefully, we can keep the momentum going Thursday night against Mason City.”

The Dodgers visit the Mohawks (6-23) on Thursday in CIC Northern Division play. Start time is set for 7:30 p.m. In their earlier meeting this season at the Osage Invitational, Fort Dodge prevailed over Mason City in three games.
