Big night for Petzenhauser
LAKE CITY – Jake Petzenhauser had an impressive night behind center, leading South Central Calhoun past Garner-Hayfield/Ventura on Friday night.
The Titans (4-3 overall, 3-0 district) remained unbeaten in district play with a 28-8 victory.
Petzenhauser threw for 183 yards and four touchdowns. He was 7-for-14 passing, with three touchdowns of 50-plus yards.
Catching touchdown passes were Jace Neubaum (53 yards), Cyle King (56), Sam Spencer (24) and Derrick Henkenius (50).
Petzenhauser led the Titan ground attack with 88 yards on nine cares.
King (89 yards) and Henkenius (55) led South Central Calhoun in receiving.
Rylan Richardson and Anthony Handlos had 12 tackles each. King had nine and Neubaum had an interception.
Warriors win 4th straight
GOWRIE – Prairie Valley won its fourth consecutive game on Friday night, knocking off Lake Mills 22-8.
Austin Wood had all three touchdowns for the Warriors (4-3 overall, 4-1 district), scoring from one, two and three yards out.
Ryan True and Austin Promes both rushed pass the 100-yard plateau. True had 160 on 30 carries and Promes had 155 on 21 carries. Wood finished with 43 yards.
Clayton Taylor had 14 tackles and Dylan Anderson had eight tackles and two sacks.
Wildcats rally for win
HUMBOLDT – Humboldt scored 22 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to pull out a 35-28 victory over LeMars on Friday night.
The Wildcats (5-2) trailed 28-13 heading into the final period, but Jaxon Heinz found Austin Zylstra from 16 yards out with six seconds left to secure the victory.
Heinz also threw a touchdown to Zylstra early in the contest. He finished 4 of 8 for 60 yards and two scores.
Brady Ross rushed for 199 yards on 32 carries. He scored from three and two yards out for the Wildcats.
Nikko Wheeler had a 36-yard touchdown run.
Ross had 14 tackles and Adam Mickelson had 11.
E-Hawks to 4-0 in district
EMMETSBURG – The Emmetsburg football team remained unbeaten in district play, rolling to a 27-9 victory over Hartley-HMS Friday night.
Junior Greg Wesley ran for 99 yards and two touchdowns, while Allen Jensen added 95 and two scores.
The E-Hawks (4-3 overall, 4-0 in district) were led on defense by Wesley, as well.
Bulldogs put hurt on IF-A
ALGONA – Weston Shaw and Tyler Frideres put on an offensive show for Algona, leading the Bulldogs to a 36-13 victory over Iowa Falls-Alden.
Shaw ran for 108 yards and two touchdowns, including a 77-yarder to start the scoring. He was also 5 of 17 passing for 119 yards and an 80-yard TD to Trevor Loeschen.
Frideres added 194 yards rushing and a score on 20 carries, including zero runs for negative yards. Loeschen had three catches for 99 yards.
Algona (2-5 overall, 1-4 in district) sealed the game with two fourth quarter scores from Frideres and Mason Decker.
No. 3 Mustangs run all over Corwith-CWL
NEWELL – The third-ranked (8-man) Newell-Fonda football team had no trouble with Corwith-CWL, posting a 70-16 victory.
Brady Bohe had 14 carries for 197 yards and four scores to lead the Mustangs (7-0 overall, 5-0 in district). Bohe has went over 100 yards in all seven games this season.
Gabe Podraza was an effective 6 of 8 passing for 86 yards and three scores, including a 19-yarder to Dillon Anderson. Anderson also returned a kickoff for a touchdown.
The Mustangs have now scored 60-plus points three times.
Ewing rushes for 242 yards
BURNSIDE – Freshman Tristan Ewing had a career night, rushing for 242 yards and three touchdowns to lead Southeast Webster-Grand past West Hancock Friday night, 22-20.
Ewing had 29 carries on the night, pushing his season total ot over 900 yards for the Eagles (2-5 overall, 1-4 in district).
Danny Eslick had a team-high 26 tackles, as Southeast Webster-Grand stopped a two-point conversion attempt with 40 seconds left to earn the win.
Webster City rallies past W-SR
WEBSTER CITY – The Webster City football team earned a key district victory over Waverly-Shell Rock here Friday night, 28-21.
The Lynx (6-1 overall, 4-1 in district) rebounded from a loss last weekend to Clear Lake by overcoming a fourth quarter deficit.
Connor Larson, who ran for 199 yards on 28 carries, scored the game-winning touchdown from 44 yards out with just over four minutes to go. Larson also had two other TDs.
Alex Oswald added 83 yards rushing and a key interception late in the game as the Go-Hawks (4-3, 2-2) were heading in for a touchdown. He also recovered a fumble.
Trey Tesdahl added 66 yards passing including a 13-yarder to Dylan Fielder.
Webster City faces Humboldt (5-2, 2-2) next Friday at home.
Garrigan holds off Newman
MASON CITY – Bishop Garrigan won a defensive slugfest with Mason City Newman here Friday, 15-13.
Ben Vaske blocked a short field goal attempt with nine seconds left to preserve the win for the Golden Bears (5-2 overall, 4-1 in Class A-2) over the Knights (2-5, 2-3).
Connor Langerman scored twice for Garrigan, and Brayton Loss had 22 carries for 80 yards in the victory. Vaske (14 tackles), Neal Koob (12 tackles, two sacks), David Klein (11 tackles) and Loss (10 tackles) led the way defensively.
Bailey Kohlhaas recovered a fumble for the Bears to set up their first score.
Joseph Burgmeier had 202 yards on 34 carries and both TDs for Newman.
A-P runs all over Eagle Grove
EAGLE GROVE – Aplington-Parkersburg picked up a 48-8 victory over Eagle Grove here Friday night.
The Falcons (3-4 overall, 2-2 in district) were led by Brady Frey, who had eight carries for 114 yards and four touchdowns.
For the Eagles (0-7, 0-5), Miguel Pacheco had 15 carries for 81 yards, including a 15-yard TD run.
Cowboys unable to lasso No. 9 Spirit Lake
CLARION – Ninth-ranked (Class 2A) Spirit Lake claimed a 59-14 victory over Clarion-Goldfield here Friday night.
The Indians (6-1 overall, 4-0 in district) scored on several Cowboy (2-5, 1-4) mistakes early on.
Zach Pogge had 71 yards rushing on 19 carries, including a touchdown, while Trenton Sann added a 58-yard TD.
