PALMER – Tony A. Svejda age 64, of Palmer, passed away on October 3, at his home in Palmer.

Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Tuesday, October 8, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Palmer with Rev. Thomas Hagen officiating

Burial will be at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery near Palmer.

Visitation will be 9:30 10:30 AM Tuesday at the church.

Anthony Alan Svejda was born on November 19, 1948, at Fort Dodge. He was the son of Edward C. and Dorothy L. (Gregerson) Svejda. Tony graduated from Palmer High School in 1967, and graduated from Iowa Central Community College with a two year degree in auto mechanics. On March 26, 1977, Tony married Linda Frerichs at Palmer. The couple has made their home in Palmer since then. Tony was the owner/operator of Tony’s Garage in Palmer since 1970.

Tony was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Palmer Volunteer Fire Department. He loved sports, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes and the New York Yankees. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR and NHRA drag racing. Tony raced at the Humboldt Co. Drag way for fifteen years with a ’69 Camaro and a ’69 Chevelle. He was the points champion in 1977.

Survivors include his wife: Linda of Palmer; step-son: Steve Antonen of Palmer; sisters: Patricia (Don) Ehler of Early and Margaret Seifried of Cresco; brother: Terry (Cindy) Svejda of Orlando, FL; sister-in-law: Susan Juilfs of Pomeroy; brother-in-laws: Ron (Pat) Frerichs of Rockwell City and Randy Frerichs of Palmer and many nieces and nephews.

Tony was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-laws, Paul Seifried and Larry Juilfs.
