Badger woman dies in crash
HUMBOLDT – A Badger woman was killed in a single-vehicle crash Saturday night outside of Humboldt.
Dorothy Lea Larson, 77, of rural Badger, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Merle Dean Larson, 82, was driving the vehicle. He was transported to Humboldt County Hospital and then airlifted to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, according to a press release from the Iowa State Patrol.
He was in stable condition Sunday evening, according to a hospital spokesperson.
The Larsons were traveling north in a 2010 Chevrolet Equinox at about 9:35 p.m. Saturday on Lone Tree Road, approximately 4.5 miles southeast of Humboldt, according to the Iowa State Patrol. The vehicle exited the left side of the road, struck a bridge marker sign and then went airborne over a creek bed. The vehicle struck the north side embankment and then rolled back into the water-filled creek, coming to rest on its top.
Merle Larson was wearing a seat belt and was extricated from the vehicle. Dorothy Larson, the only passenger, was not wearing a seat belt. She was partially ejected from the vehicle during the collision.
The Iowa State Patrol is conducting the ongoing investigation. They were assisted at the scene by the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department, Humboldt Fire Department, Humboldt Ambulance and Mid Iowa Towing.
