Chansler acquitted of domestic abuse

Fort Dodge Police Officer Jody Chansler has been found not guilty of domestic abuse assault following a bench trial Thursday afternoon.

Magistrate William Habhab made the written ruling Friday morning.

Chansler was accused of shoving his wife on the floor during an argument about a cell phone on Aug. 13. He testified in his own defense that their bodies bumped together as he was trying to leave his house and go into his backyard. That caused her to fall down, he testified.

A 12-year veteran of the Fort Dodge Police Department, Chansler was put on paid administrative leave following his arrest.
