Betty L. Holmstrom, 84, of Fort Dodge, died Sunday, September 22, 2013, at the Fort Dodge Villa Care Center.

A service honoring Betty’s life will be on Thursday, September 26, at 10:30 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church with the Rev. Lyle Hansen officiating. Interment will be in North Lawn Cemetery. The visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Memorials may be directed to the discretion of the family.

Betty is survived by her children, Melodie (Jim) Carlson, Alta; Craig (Becky) Holmstrom, Fort Dodge; Bill (Sheree) Holmstrom, Hampton; ten grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, her brother Jerry (Marilyn) Burnett, Littleton, Colorado; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Tim and Sondra Holmstrom, Bev and Joe Bray and Janice and Russ Browne. She was preceded in death by her parents, her grandparents, her husband Dick, her infant brother Jackie, and sister and brother-in-law, Joanne and Jack Calvert.

Betty Lou Burnett, the daughter of Rollie and Pauline (Johnson) Burnett, was born November 2, 1928 in Denver, Colorado. She graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School in 1946. While in high school, she sang a solo with the Karl King Band. She worked at the Scandinavian Bakery and at Lillian’s. In 1947, Betty was united in marriage to Richard (Dick) Holmstrom at Epworth United Methodist Church in Fort Dodge. She was employed with Younkers as a sales clerk.

Betty was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church where she sang in the church choir. She had a lifetime love for music. She enjoyed playing cards with her card club group, bowling and playing Bingo at the nursing home. Betty treasured time spent with all of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
