Tritons try to end skid

IOWA FALLS – The Iowa Central football team will look to end another streak, as they face a tough Ellsworth squad this afternoon.

Game time is set for 1 p.m. in Iowa Falls.

The Tritons (1-2 overall, 0-2 MFC) lost both games to the Panthers (0-2, 1-2) last season.

Iowa Central is coming off a 38-7 setback to College of DuPage. Ellsworth defeated Arkansas Baptist 29-26 last week in five overtimes.

“They had a great win last week in five overtimes,” said Iowa Central head coach Kevin Twait. “Arkansas Baptist beat College of DuPage (who beat Iowa Central).

“They’re very aggressive on defense and move around a lot. We have to be patient and play our game.”

The Tritons struggled last week, only racking up 193 yards of total offense and only 99 on the ground. The Iowa Central defense gave up 515 yards, 308 on the ground.

“We are going to have to get some big plays,” Twait said. “They have an outstanding tailback in Trey Gilbert (who rushed for three touchdowns last week).

“We’re going to have our hands full.”

Last week Kendall Jackson led the Tritons on the ground with 72 yards. He hit Brandynn Clark from 12 yards out for the only score of the game.”

“We are starting to make improvements,” Twait said. “By years end we should have good team.

“We just have step it up and play better.”
