Pair serious after crash

Two Minnesota men were airlifted to a Des Moines hospital after the motorcycle they were riding crashed early Friday morning on Hawkeye Avenue near Second Street Northwest.

At approximately 1:15 a.m., Robert D.J. Gorghuber, 25, Fergus Falls, Minn., was driving westbound when his 2009 Yamaha motorcycle ran over the curb and onto the parking, causing him to lose control, according to information provided by the Iowa State Patrol.

The motorcycle returned to the roadway shortly before entering a yard where it rolled end over end, ejecting the driver and passenger, Steven J. Cecko, 23, Little Falls, Minn.

Gorghuber and Cecko were initially transported to Trinity Regional Medical Center and were then airlifted to Iowa Methodist Hospital, Des Moines.

According to Amy Varcoe, Unity Point spokeswoman, both men were in serious condition Friday afternoon.

Neither driver nor passenger was wearing a helmet.

The Iowa State Patrol is conducting the investigation. The Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Fort Dodge police and fire departments, and Trinity Regional Medical Center ambulance.
