GOWRIE – Donald J. Amandus, age 84, passed away Thursday, September 19, 2013 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Ft. Dodge. Services will be 10:30 a.m Monday, September 23, 2013 at Zion Lutheran Church, Gowrie with Pastor Jim Davis officiating. Burial will be in the Gowrie Township Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Peterson Post #431 of Gowrie. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, September 22 at Palmer Funeral Home in Gowrie.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia of 63 years; son, David (Raelene) Amandus of Ft. Dodge, Joel (Donna) Amandus of Ft. Madison; grandchildren, Amy (T. J.) Dykstra, Ben Amandus, KyleAmandus and Jackson Amandus; great-grandchildren, Kylie, Mason and Dallas; sister, Barbara Humphrey of Ft. Dodge.He was preceded in death were his parents, Reuben and Tillie (Jenner) Amandus, step-mother, Gladys Amandus, son Daniel Amandus and daughter Janice Stoeffler.

Don J. Amandus was born on April 5, 1929 in Lyle, Minnesota and graduated from the Gowrie High School. He was united in marriage to Virginia Anderson on December 10, 1950. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged, Don worked at Dean Auto, had a gasoline tank wagon truck and the Prairie Community School system serving as a mechanic and transportation supervisor, retiring in 1995 after 38 years of service. Don was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church. Don was an avid bowler for many years. He enjoyed his fishing trips to Canada and trips to Kansas City to see the Royals play. His greatest joy was being with his family.
