Service station saves Saturday

To the editor:

On Saturday, Sept. 7, our musical group was just leaving Fort Dodge to go to Stuart, Iowa for an engagement, when the alternator quit working. Being that it was ten minutes to five on a Saturday, we thought that we were going to be a no-show in Stuart. Then I remembered that Jim’s Service Station stays open later on Saturdays and when we pulled in they were five minutes from being closed. After explaining our situation to mechanics Randy Kai and Jeff Smith (aka Skip), they were more than willing to help us out. Skip ran to the parts store for a new alternator while Randy removed the bad one and then installed the new one and they had us back on the road by 5:30. We made it to our gig with time to spare, all due to the willingness of two professional and dedicated mechanics. Thanks to Randy and Skip for saving the day, or should I say, “saving the night.”
