Lorell Eugene McFarland, 90, of Lake Conroe, Texas, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 12, 2013 after a long struggle with congestive heart failure. Lorell was born in Webster City, Iowa, on May 10, 1923 to Carl Emery and Agnes Carlson McFarland. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Vangie and two infant sons Lorell and Douglas. He is survived by five daughters, Cyndie Dietrich of Jacksonville, FL, Jenny McFarland of Omaha, Nebraska, Connie Parker (Kevin) of Lancaster, CA, Emily McFarland of Lake Conroe, TX and Jean McFarland of Lake Conroe, TX, grandsons Douglas (Lacey) Dietrich of Fleming Island, FL, James Kopecky of Omaha, NE and Patrick (Carly) Parker of Valencia, CA, and great-grandsons Dalton and Wyatt Dietrich of Fleming Island, FL. Also survived by two sisters: Verna Anderson of Fort Dodge, IA and Patricia Schimins of Overland Park, KS.

Lorell served in the Army and was stationed in the Pacific Islands during World War II. He retired from Pacific Intermountain Express (PIE) in 1984 after working as a long haul trucker for over thirty years. Lorell loved spending time with (and teasing) his special daughter Emily. He also loved traveling and camping across the United States, western movies and telling stories.

Visitation will be Wednesday, September 18, 2013 from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. at the Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Fort Dodge. Funeral service will be Thursday, September 19, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge. Interment will follow at North Lawn Cemetery in Fort Dodge.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or Special Olympics.
