Animal law assaults liberty

To the editor:

I read the article on the new ordinances passed by the Fort Dodge City Council. Although I am not a resident of the city, the ordinance is intrusive enough to cause me to speak up. Our state motto of “Our liberties we prize and our rights we will maintain” comes to mind when reading this article. What right does the city have to set a number on the amount of animals a person can have on their private property? This goes beyond just pets. We are not subjects of the city, we are residents. Tax money spent toward these frivolous ordinances does nothing but hurt the people.
