CFR will host first family fun festival in FD

A Fort Dodge organization that focuses on the prevention and treatment of substance abuse, gambling and mental illness will be observing National Recovery Month next week by branching out into the community to host a family fun festival.

Community & Family Resources is planning an afternoon of activities for all families in the community Sept. 22 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Oleson Park.

“This is the first time we have done a big activity like this in Fort Dodge,” said Kara Thiele, human resource coordinator for CFR. “We want this to be a family fun festival for everyone to spread awareness of what CFR is all about that goes beyond our own clients.”

Thiele said the event is meant to educate families on the importance of recovery, but also as a way to have fun.

“We have made it a free event so that all people can attend and adults can learn more about who we are and what we do, but will be fun for the kids as well,” she said.

Activities include yoga in the park from 2 to 4 p.m. offered by certified yoga instructors, face painting by, a magic show, spin art booth, bounce houses, music by JAMM DJ service and food vending from the CFR STARS program.

“Everything will be free, except the food, which we will be keeping at minimal costs,” said Thiele.

There will also be drawings for prizes, including an IPad Mini, passes to Fort Frenzy and art supplies.

“We hope everyone will come out to have fun and learn about what we do with our programs in Fort Dodge,” said Thiele.
