Precision Tank coming to Humboldt

HUMBOLDT – The community of Humboldt is preparing to welcome a new business that is expected to create jobs and help boost the local economy.

Virginia, Ill.,-based Precision Tank & Equipment broke ground for a new 90-by-350-foot facility on more than 10 acres on the northwest side of Humboldt Aug. 28.

The project is a $3.6 million investment in Humboldt County, Alissa Reinholdt, of the Humboldt County Economic Development Association, said.

“We are looking at the creation of 14 full-time jobs to start,” said Reinholdt. “They are putting more than $3 million into our community.”

Bringing the company to Humboldt has been a work in progress, Reinholdt said.

“We have pursued them for two years,” she said. “Originally, we went through the process a few years ago and they wanted to purchase an existing business, but they came to us again.”

“We have talked to Humboldt on a few occasions,” said Mike Zeitler, vice president of operations with Precision Tank & Equipment. “We broke ground there last week and Humboldt has been a great community to work with.”

The company’s Humboldt plant will manufacture stainless steel tanks for agricultural chemicals and fiberglass storage tanks for ag-related industries such as ethanol and biodiesel.

It will be the company’s fourth location, and the first in Iowa. Precision Tank & Equipment has plants in Athens, Ill.; Virginia, Ill.; and Ligonier, Ind., all of which are small rural communities, Reinholdt said.

“Their home office is in a town of around 2,000 people,” she said. “They wanted a smaller community like Humboldt for their next location.”

Reinholdt said the addition of the new business already has – and will continue to have – a positive impact on Humboldt and surrounding communities.

“We love it that they are here,” she said. “They are using a local contractor to build. It will have an impact on jobs, utilities, local schools, and with new jobs there will be more people buying homes. Our whole community is excited to have them in Humboldt.

“Anytime you have a project that others will benefit from it is a good thing.”
