Gaels sweep through triangular

POCAHONTAS – The St. Edmond volleyball team earned a pair of victories here Tuesday night, sweeping past Pocahontas Area and Storm Lake.

The Gaels (3-3 overall) defeated the host Indians by scores of 19-25, 25-11 and 15-10, while running through the Toreadors by scores of 25-13, 25-14.

“Overall we played a pretty steady match and didn’t let either team go on runs,” said St. Edmond head coach Dee Huss. “They played with confidence and were relaxed.

“They were fun to watch.”

Alli Huss led the way for the Gaels with 16 kills, three blocks. Huss was also 11-for-14 serving with four aces. She had nine digs and two assists.

Madeline Baldwin and Lauren Moeding had 17 and 19 assists respectively. Baldwin was 17 of 19 serving with six aces.

Clare Flattery, Maric Salocker and Jaci Stumpf had seven kills each.

Anna Yung was perfect at the service line, going 10-for-10 with two aces. Paige Savery was 14-for-17 serving with two aces.

“We have a whole week back in the gym until we start our NCC schedule with a home match vs. Webster City,” Huss. “So we need to stay focused on improving every day.”

The St. Edmond junior varsity went 1-1, beating Storm Lake 2-1 in sets and losing to Pocahontas Area in two sets.

Pocahontas Area also picked up a win over Storm Lake, 25-10, 25-12.

Next action for the Gaels will be next Thursday vs. Webster City.
