GOWRIE – Harold G. Orness 83, passed away Thursday, August 29, 2013 at the Gowrie Care Center. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 31, at the United Methodist Church, Gowrie, with Pastor Jane Shephard officiating. Burial will be at Gowrie Township Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites conducted by the American Legion Peterson Post #431 of Gowrie. Friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Friday (Today) at the Palmer Funeral Home, Gowrie, with a Masonic Service at 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be left to family discretion.

Harold is survived by his wife Joan; their children, Barry (Carol) Orness of Des Moines, Jane (Jeff) Burnett of Ft. Collins, CO, and Craig (Kate) Orness of Humboldt; 9 grandchildren, Kate (Nathan) Galloway, Sarah Burnett, Erin Orness, Christiana Orness, Paige Orness, Michael Orness, Thomas Orness, Abigail Orness, and William Orness; and sister Luella Mathias of Orlando, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lars and Christiana (Orskog) Orness; brothers, Chester and Olaf Orness; and sisters, Amanda Carlson, Nellie Schmidt, Viola Heitkamp, Clara Hanson, and Hilda Hanson.

Harold G. Orness was born August 18, 1930 at Roelyn, Iowa, and graduated from Gowrie High school, with the Class of 1949. Harold served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict from January of 1951 and was honorably discharged in October of1954. Harold was united in marriage to Joan Hunter at the United Methodist Church in Gowrie. Harold farmed for 55 years until his retirement in 2009. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Rose Lodge #506, and the American Legion Peterson Post #431 of Gowrie.
