Pauline Hayden, the daughter of Al and Edna (Nelson) Hayden, was born March 27, 1923 at Unique, Iowa. After graduating from Fort Dodge High School in 1941, she went to Mercy Hospital Nurses Training and became a Registered Nurse in 1945. She enjoyed sewing, reading, fishing and spending time with her family and friends. On January 23, 1946, Pauline was united in marriage to Raymond P. Sullivan in Barnum, Iowa. Together they farmed in the Barnum/Knierim area until retirement. They enjoyed many fishing trips in Canada, Florida and Minnesota. After Ray retired in 1976, they wintered in Texas and Pauline loved sending family members ‘temperature reports’ on how warm it was while we were freezing in Iowa.

Pauline is survived by her two children, Mary Jo (David) Frese, Atkins; Jim (Vikki Charter) Sullivan, Fremont, Neb.; five grandchildren, Brian (Wendy) Frese, Barbara (Mark) Johnson, Jamie Sullivan, Jason (Julie) Sullivan and Greg (Ajay) Charter; eight great-grandchildren, Rylie Frese, Alexis Frese, Mia Frese, Paul Johnson, Brynn Johnson, Ellery Johnson, Ian Evelsheiser and Madison Sullivan; brother Bernard Hayden, Fort Dodge; sisters-in-law, Florence Hayden, Fort Dodge; and Rosalie Halligan, O’Fallon, MO; and many nieces and nephews. Pauline was preceded in death by her parents, Al and Edna Hayden, her husband Ray Sullivan, in 1990; her sister Marjorie McCabe, in 2003; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. All who knew her will miss her gentle, caring personality and her witty sense of humor.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to the Patient Advocate Foundation (co-pay release program) 421 Butler Farm Road, Hampton, VA 23666. Please list Pauline’s name and for the Kidney Cancer Center Fund.
