Caregiver’s event is Aug. 22
To the editor:
The Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Iowa Chapter is proud to again partner with Iowa Central Community College, Elderbridge Agency on the Aging, Friendship Haven and the Marion Home to present the ninth annual Caregiver’s Conference on Dementia to be held at Iowa Central Community College, Bioscience and Health Sciences building Aug. 22.
Alzheimer’s disease is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States and the numbers of those affected are rapidly increasing. Sadly, the odds are not in our favor. Chances are if it hasn’t already, this disease will impact your life or the life of someone you know. Whether you are a professional or family caregiver for someone with the disease, or just interested in learning more about Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, this year’s conference will have something for everyone.
Nationally acclaimed guest speaker Erin Bonitto will describe the differences between normal aging and Alzheimer’s disease, and show how Alzheimer’s and related dementias damage the brain. Bonitto, the innovator of Life Enrichment Systems for dementia, will share tools and hands-on approaches to help reduce the frustrations involved with understanding the disease and help caregivers to create meaningful moments, have increased communication skills, and build strength-based activities to help those affected by Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.
Preregistration is required by Aug. 15. We recommend signing up early. Last year the conference registration filled up prior to the event and many had to be put on to a waiting list. … Please register today.
