HUMBOLDT – Dorothy Ellsworth, 91, of Fort Dodge, passed away August 7, 2013 at University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt with the Rev. Christy Ehrle officiating. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Humboldt. Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. Monday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.

Dorothy Wright, the daughter of Frank and Olive (Haynes) Wright, was born October 27, 1921 on a farm near Chelsea, Iowa. As a young girl, Dorothy moved with her family to a farm near Bradgate where she received her education. Following her graduation from Bradgate High School, Dorothy attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. On December 30, 1942, Dorothy married her high school sweetheart, Robert Ellsworth, in Santa Anna, California where Robert was stationed during the war. Following his discharge, the couple returned to Iowa where Mr. Ellsworth began his teaching career in Rolfe. They then made their home in Gilmore City before moving to Fort Dodge. Dorothy was employed in the records department of Mercy Hospital until the couple started their family. In their retirement, the couple maintained their home in Fort Dodge where they were active members of the Methodist Church. Robert passed away in 2007.

Dorothy enjoyed the outdoors and took great pride in her garden and flowers and enjoyed bird watching. She helped tend the family’s orchard and made wonderful apple pies. She especially enjoyed her kitties, birthday club, faculty wives group, and Sunday coffee circle with her friends and neighbors.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Paula Ellsworth of Iowa City; son, Robert Ellsworth of Florida; grandchildren, Cameron, Lauren, and Colin; and great grandchildren, Regan, Campbell, Barrett, and Tyler. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; brothers, Harland and Michael Wright; and sister, Hazel Wright.
