Hunter education safety course set in Algona
ALGONA – A Hunter Safety Education Course has been scheduled for this summer. The course will meet from 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 19 through Aug. 22. The classes on Aug. 19-21 will be held at the Water’s Edge Nature Center and the Aug. 22 class will be held at the Izaak Walton League building across from Smith Lake. To receive certification, participants must attend all four sessions.
The class is offered to anyone 12 years age, or older, free of charge. The course will cover firearm handling and safety, wildlife management, survival, and various other topics. Live shooting of clay targets will be offered as part of the class. The course is sponsored by the Kossuth County Conservation Board. Preregistration is required for the course. Students may register online by going to www.iowadnr.gov/training. In the “class search” box, type “Algona” and proceed with registration. A manual must also be picked up at the nature center by Aug. 16. The deadline to sign up is Aug. 16 at 4:30 p.m. For more information contact the Water’s Edge Nature Center at 295-2138.
