Esther M. Smith, 94, of Fort Dodge, died Thursday, August 1, 2013 at Fort Dodge Villa Care Center.

A service honoring Esther’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 4, at Grace Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Matthew Martens officiating. Interment will be in West Lawn Cemetery at Lehigh. The visitation is 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday at Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Memorials may be directed to the discretion of the family.

Esther is survived by her daughters, Beverly (Mervin) Moench, Spearfish, South Dakota; Darlene (Ken) Fuller, Fort Dodge; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren; and her sisters, Evelyn Lathrop, Spencer; Joan Shafer, Tavares, Fla.; and Gladys Love, Cedar Falls. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers, Alfred and George W. Jr., and her sister Bernice Sonnicksen.

Esther Mae Schultz, daughter of George W. and Elsie M. (Anderson) Schultz, was born June 21, 1919, in Webster County. Esther attended Otho High School. On March 24, 1938, Esther was united in marriage to Col. Floyd H. Smith in Webster County. Esther lived in the Lehigh area most of her life. She was employed at Globe Union for ten years and was a homemaker.

Esther was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and she served as a 4-H leader. She enjoyed sewing, crochet, flowers and gardening, playing cards, traveling and visiting the Senior Center in Fort Dodge.
