Betty J. Noreen, 83, of Fort Dodge, died Monday, July 29, 2013, at Villa Cottages.
A service honoring Betty’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 3, at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Ron Kitterman officiating. Interment will be in the Wall Lake Cemetery at Wall Lake. The visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
Betty is survived by her daughters, Gloria (Ken) Gibb, Lincoln, Neb.; Mary (Ron) Kitterman, Fort Dodge; grandchildren, Kirk (Chris), John (Dina), Mandy (Mike) and Alex; great-grandchildren, Mason and Maddox, her siblings, Luke (Karen) Druivenga, Osceola; Mary Ann Bals, Ames; her sister-in-law Ruth Druivenga, Carnarvon; and also nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Courtney, parents Kasper and Ida, and a brother Dale.
Betty Joan Druivenga, the daughter of Kasper and Ida (Gerdes) Druivenga, was born November 3, 1929, in Battle Creek, Iowa. She graduated from Lake View High School. Betty lived in the Lake View area from 1929 to 1950. On May 6, 1951, Betty was united in marriage to Courtney Noreen at the Presbyterian Church in Carnarvon, Iowa. The couple lived in Sioux City from 1951 to 1992. Betty was employed as an assistant for Dr. Durst and then as an aide with St. Joseph’s Hospital for many years. She worked for Swift & Company in Sioux City for more than 30 years and also for Boulevard Foods. Betty worked in the dietary department at Friendship Haven after she and Courtney moved to Fort Dodge in 1992. Courtney preceded her in death in 2009.
Betty enjoyed activities at Friendship Haven, gardening and baking. She especially treasured time spent with her grandchildren.
