FONDA – Cletus Peiffer, age 86, of Twin Lakes and formerly of Fonda, Iowa died July 27, 2013 in Fonda.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Fonda. Burial will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery. Visitation will take place Tuesday, July 30, 2013 from 4-8:00 p.m. with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. and a KC Rosary to follow all at the OLGC Catholic Church in Fonda. The Mahaney Funeral Home in Fonda is in charge of the arrangements.

Cletus Lawrence Peiffer was born October 25, 1926 in Jolley, Iowa the son of Lawrence and Freda (Hammen) Peiffer. At age six months, Cletus and his family moved to a farm east of Fonda.

Growing up, he attended country school and graduated from Fonda Public High School in 1944. Following graduation, he farmed for two years and then entered the service of the United States Navy from 1946 -1948. He then returned to the family farm.

On October 26, 1957, Cletus was united in marriage to Alice “Jo” Stoulil at St. Peter and Paul Church in Pocahontas. Together, they were blessed with five children: Teresa, Paul, Ann, Marilyn, and Elaine. The couple continued to farm until 2003, when they moved to Twin Lakes.

A lifetime member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, Cletus was a longtime church trustee, Eucharistic minister, cantor and a 60+ year member of the church choir. He was an Honorary Life member and past Grand Knight of the Father Brennan Knights of Columbus Council in Fonda. He was also a Rosati Assembly Fourth Degree Knight.

He served on the boards of the Pomeroy Co-op, Pocahontas County Cattlemen, and the Fonda Golf and Country Club.

Cletus had a passion for farming and feeding cattle. He was a Crow’s seed salesman for over 30 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed bowling, golfing and traveling with Jo on bus trips. Cletus loved watching sporting events, especially when his children and grandchildren were participating.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Alice “Jo” Peiffer of Twin Lakes; children: Teresa (Andy) Knoblauch of St. Cloud, Minnesota; Ann (Jay) Stoltenberg of Wall Lake, Iowa; Marilyn (Carl) Johnson of St. Joseph, Missouri; Elaine Peiffer of Marshalltown, Iowa; grandchildren: Brian (Jenna) Knoblauch, Jessica Knoblauch (fianc, Ivan Ayala), Chris Knoblauch; Mandy (Jeff) Schroeder, Kayla Stoltenberg, Marcus Stoltenberg, Jackson Stoltenberg; Candace Rongey, Michael (Kori) Rongey; great grandchildren: Beni and Jovi Rongey, and Teagan Schroeder; sister, Thelma Sandiland of LaVista, Nebraska; many nieces and nephews; extended family and friends.

Cletus was preceded in death by his parents; son, Paul, in 1977; sister, LaVonne Reis, and an infant brother.
