WEST DES MOINES – Lester “Les” William Graves passed away on July 16, 2013 in West Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 79. He was born on November 9, 1933 in Ocheyedan, Iowa to Rothmer (Red) W. and Esther Graves. Lester graduated from Webster City High School in 1951 and served his country in the United States Army. He worked at John Deere and Wal-Mart in Des Moines and also worked part time at the Urbandale High School. Lester was a long-time resident of West Des Moines.
He was an avid Saint Louis Cardinals fan and he traveled numerous times to Saint Louis to attend games.
Lester is survived by his daughter Connie (Grandgeorge) Nicoletti and partner David Haynes of Eagle Grove, Iowa, son Ronald Grandgeorge and his wife Patricia of Papillion, Nebraska, two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Lester is also survived by two very special and dedicated neighbors Ray and Louise Collins, who helped him out numerous times over the past 25 years. Lester was preceded in death by his parents and his three brothers, Richard, Harold and Walter.

McLaren’s Resthaven Funeral Chapel of West Des Moines was in charge of arrangements. Interment will be held at a later date at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa, with full military honors.
