CALLENDER – Kalcie E. (Bud) Lowry, age 89, passed away Friday, July 19, 2013 at Fort Dodge Villa Care Center. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Callender, with Pastor Jon Rollefson officiating.

Burial will be in the Callender Cemetery with Military Rites by American Legion Peterson Post #431 of Gowrie. Friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Monday at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Callender. Palmer Funeral Home of Gowrie is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include brother Wayne Lowrey of Fort Dodge, sisters Beverly Peterson of Callender, Vivian Hanson of Callender, and Kay Nerhus of Fort Dodge, step-son Jim Ballard and wife Sue of Hemet, California, step-grandchildren and great-step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his wife Elvira Lowry, parents Kelly and Viola (Evanson) Lowry, brother Gene Lowry, sisters Leone Bryson and Maxine Dorsey, and step-son Rick Lowry.

Kalcie E. Lowry was born on January 23, 1924 in Somers. He graduated from the Callender High School in 1943. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in Mindanao, Philippines, New Guinea, and Yakohania, Japan. Kalcie was employed with Hormel Company for 35 years, retiring in 1981. On March 30, 1980, he was united in marriage to Elvira Wynn. The couple established their home in Callender and spent their winter months in their home in Sun City, California. Kalcie was the custodian at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church for 25 years. He always enjoyed being part of the farm life. He loved helping relatives with field work and especially working part time on his own land. He was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church and for 68 years he was a member of the Albert J. Hanson American Legion Post #592 of Callender. Kalcie always enjoyed driving Cadillacs. He had a loyal dog companion named Charlie Brown.
