Humboldt nail technician’s art featured nationally

HUMBOLDT – For the past 10 years, Bobbie Taylor has been polishing and adding custom art to her client’s nails.

It started as a hobby at first, but has since gained her national recognition.

“I’ve worked with nails for over 10 years, but I didn’t go to school until I knew I really wanted to do it professionally,” said Taylor.

Taylor opened Head 2 Toe Salon last year, and has maintained a steady stream of both new and old clients looking to express themselves through Taylor’s custom nail art on their fingers and toes.

“I can do almost everything,” said Taylor.

Taylor has hand-painted everything from animal prints and flowers to sports logos and the faces of musical icons on nails.

Football season, Taylor said, is a time when she gets a lot of unique requests for team logos and colors.

“I get one every time during football season that I haven’t done before,” she said. “Probably one of the more difficult requests I have gotten was for the Denver Broncos, but we got it done.”

Cartoon character art is popular among her youngest of clients.

“Kids love the characters,” she said. “Their nails are small so you have to downscale the art but it is fun.”

Taylor has entered several contests with her nail art, taking first place in the C&D nail art competition as a student and most recently taking second place in the NAILS Magazine March Madness competition.

Her art has been featured five times in Nail Pro magazine and will be featured in NAILS magazine in August, September and October. Taylor has also been a featured artist on

“I love the creativity of it,” she said. “I like finding new ways to do things. Almost everyone comes in and wants something different done every time.”

Besides nail technology, Taylor is also licensed in cosmetology, reflexology and full body waxing. She is joined by stylist Holly Lanz, who offers hair services such as cuts and colors.
