A family at the fair
EAGLE GROVE – The wash bays for preparing livestock entries for judging were busy Thursday afternoon at the Wright County Fair that runs through Monday at the fairgrounds in Eagle Grove.
Cattle and sheep were both being scrubbed clean, and among those doing the washing of sheep were twin brothers Jaden and Jaxon Kampen, of Humboldt. The Kampen brothers are 15 years old and members of the Thor Vikings 4-H Club.
Jaden Kampen’s entry even got some last-minute shearing in the sheep barn by his father, Chad Kampen.
Chad Kampen said he was showing sheep back when he was the age of his boys and learned shearing then.
Today, Chad Kampen only does shearing for his family’s herd. His main job is as a salesman for K.C. Nielsen, the John Deere dealer in Humboldt.
Sheep judging will be at 9 a.m. today with dairy cattle and goat judging at 4 p.m. today.
Swine judging will be 8 a.m. Saturday.
Beef judging is scheduled for Sunday at 9 a.m. and bucket calf competition will be at 1 p.m.
