LAKE CITY – Dorothy Newland Miller, 94, died Monday, July 8, 2013 at Shady Oaks Care Center in Lake City. Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. onFriday, July 12, 2013 at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Lake City with Father Lynn Bruch officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Lake City American Legion Post #31 and the Lake City V.F.W. Post #1899.

Dorothy was born the oldest of seven children on October 30, 1918 at Wadena, MN to John and Ida (Busche) Tigges. She served in the United Sates Army from 1943 to 1945 and was united in marriage to Francis A. Newland in 1946 at Wadena, MN. Francis died on April 11, 1968. She later married Wendell Miller on January 29, 1972 and Wendell died on May 28, 1979. Dorothy worked as a Nurse’s Aide at McVay Hospital and also at Super Valu and the Conrad Motel in Lake City. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lake City, the Lake City V.F.W. and Ladies Auxiliary. She raised four boys and maintained a good family home.

Dorothy is survived by her sons Mike (Carol) Newland of Lake City, Denny Newland of Port Townsend, WA, Joe Newland of Urbandale, and Ed Newland of Shakopee, MN, 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, sister Jenny (Dr. Bill) Zavaneli of CA, and brother John (Yvonne) Tigges of MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Francis Newland in 1968, husband Wendell Miller in 1979, four sisters, and one brother.
