FD baseball loses twice
AMES – The sixth-ranked Fort Dodge baseball team dropped a doubleheader to Ames on Monday night.
The Dodgers (21-12 overall, 6-4 CIC) lost the opener and dropped a 15-8 decision in the nightcap.
In the first contest, both teams had seven hits each, but the Dodgers couldn’t find the timely hitting.
“We have to have good pitching, solid defense and timely hitting,” said Fort Dodge head coach Blake Utley. “We didn’t have that hitting in the first game.”
Austin Halligan was 3-for-3 with two doubles in the contest.
In the second game, Ames exploded for all 15 of their runs in the second and third innings.
JC Hatcher and Devon Harms were both 2-for-3. Parker Van Zyl was 2-for-4 and Nate Sunken had two hits.
“This game was much different, we were hitting and we played good defense, we just didn’t have the pitching,” Utley said. “We have to find a way to get all three things together. We’re not a team that can rely on one or two of those attributes.”
The Dodgers are back in action at home on Thursday when they host Valley.
