CLIFFORD “PETE” VON AHN
LAKE CITY – Clifford “Pete” Von Ahn, 87, died Monday, July 8, 2013 at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at the Lake City Union Church with Rev. Beth Harbaugh officiating and with burial in Oaklawn Cemetery in Auburn. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Lampe Funeral Home in Lake City is in charge of the arrangements.
Pete was born on June 19, 1926 at Lake City, Iowa to William “Bill” and Frances (Bean) Von Ahn. He attended school in Lake City and served in the United States Navy from July 1943 to May 1946. He was aboard the Winfield Destroyer and spent time on both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Following his military service, Pete farmed in the Lake City area until he entered the Peace Corps later in life. He spent two years in Tunisia teaching farming practices. He was a member of the Lake City American Legion Post #31, a former mayor of Yetter, and enjoyed taco night at the Wagon Wheel.
Pete is survived by his son Jim Von Ahn of Carroll, daughter Susan (Chuck) Allison of Norwood, MN, 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, brother-in-law Don Smith and sister-in-law Minnie VanAhn both of Lake City and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Elsie Smith, and brothers Bus, Mike, and Ed VanAhn.
