Branstad picks 3 for state posts

Three area residents have been named to state government panels by Gov. Terry Branstad.

John Fredrickson, of Gowrie, was appointed to the board of directors of the Iowa Agricultural Development Authority. That authority provides financial assistance to farmers through initiatives such as the Beginning Farmer Loan Program.

Fredrickson’s appointment must be confirmed by the state Senate next year.

Mark Zabawa, of Emmetsburg, was appointed to the Northwest Regional Science, Technology Engineering and Mathematics Advisory Board. That panel is part of the effort led by Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds to improve education in science, technology, engineering and math.

Jim Atty, of Humboldt, was named to the Rural Health and Primary Care Advisory Committee. He is the chief executive officer of Humboldt County Memorial Hospital.

The appointments of Zabawa and Atty do not require state Senate approval.

The appointments were announced Monday by the governor’s office.
