Dodgers split in Mason City
MASON CITY – For a second time this season, the Fort Dodge softball team had to settle for a split against Mason City Monday night.
After escaping with a 10-9 victory in the opener, the Dodgers (22-13, 7-3) dropped a 10-2 decision in the nightcap.
Mallory Kilian was a perfect 4-for-4 with a double, triple and four RBI for FDSH in the first game. She also went the distance in the circle, scattering nine hits with six strikeouts.
Freshman Madi Bennett chipped in two hits, including her first career longball – a two-run shot to left field in the third inning. Bre Ulrich drove in the go-ahead score with a two-run single in the seventh.
“The first game was very emotional, and I loved the fact that we fought back,” said Dodger head coach Andi Adams. “We did a great job of fighting through three errors and getting the job done.”
Lani Van Zyl and Maddie Egli tallied singles for the lone Fort Dodge hits in the second contest. The Mohawks (18-10, 6-4) registered 11 hits, while plating at least three runs in three different frames.
“Mason City was absolutely on fire offensively (last night),” Adams said. “It was just a real dogfight.”
Fort Dodge returns to action Wednesday at Johnston (23-11).
