Scholarship Ride prevails

To the editor:

Although Mother Nature was an angry lady on the day of the sixth annual Sgt. Jon JJ Bonnell Scholarship Ride we still managed to get through it. We want to thank all of those that braved the weather and came out in support. There were several motorcycles and many vehicles. Glad you came along.

Thanks go out to many people as always. Thank you to the Fort Dodge Police Department for the escort at the start of the ride and to the Fort Dodge Fire Department for once again bringing the boom truck with the American Flag to Amigo’s. Thank you to all of the businesses and individuals that donated their time and auction items. You have no idea how much we appreciate this. To the VFW for allowing us to take over during the registration, thank you. To Mark Campbell and his staff at Amigo’s, you are an amazing group and always more than accommodating.

The recipients of this year’s scholarships were Tommy Halligan and Morgan Bowman from Fort Dodge Senior High School and Aaron Chalstrom from St. Edmond High School. Congratulations to you all and best of luck as you start your college years. Although our crowd was small, our thanks are huge. We continue to do this each year because we believe in what we do. We stand behind our choices with honesty and integrity. We set out to keep Sgt. Bonnell’s name alive so that people will always remember that he died fighting for our Freedom. Providing these scholarships to FDSH and St. Edmond is our way of doing just that. We are pleased to announce that for 2014 school year we will be providing 10 $2,000 scholarships for a total of $20,000. It is because of the support that we have had from Fort Dodge and the surrounding communities that we are able to do this.

We truly appreciate all that you have done to make this ride successful. We hope to see all of you back May 24, 2014. Ride safe.
