Gael softball team loses in 11

JEFFERSON – It’s already been a long week for the fourth-ranked St. Edmond softball team and after Thursday’s game against Greene County it even got longer.

The Gaels (16-4 overall) lost a tight 4-3 decision to Greene County in an 11 inning contest.

The Gaels were playing their fourth straight game this week and second consecutive extra inning contest. They’re back in action tonight as well, hosting Clarion-Goldfield.

St. Edmond has played 34 innings of softball in four days.

“We’re banged up right now and the last thing we needed was two games in one,” said St. Edmond head coach Paul Hunt. “Greene County has a great program and a great coaching staff.

“They have a lot of talent.”

Greene County ended the contest with a line drive to left in the bottom of the 11th to score a runner from third.

Katie Donnelly and Brigid Hanley had two hits each. Hanley drove in all three Gael runs.

The St. Edmond junior varsity won 7-6.
