Marine Corps event succeeds
To the editor:
The Marine Corps League of Fort Dodge had another successful Steak Fry Dinner this April at the VFW. The money earned at this event goes back to the community, to a wide variety of charitable organizations such as The Salvation Army, Make a Wish Foundation, Boy Scouts of America, American Red Cross, the Special Olympics, Marshalltown Veterans Home, Brushy Creek Area Honor Flights and college scholarships.
In addition, this year the Marine Corps League donated to the Domestic/Sexual Abuse Outreach Center. The League is also involved in sponsoring four dogs in the Leader program at Rockwell City and Fort Dodge Correctional Institutions. These dogs are obedience trained and sent to Michigan for additional training for the jobs of seeing eye dogs for the blind.
This year’s event was a success and we would like to thank the following businesses for the donations we received, Sports Page, Mineral City, Olde Boston’s Restaurant and Pub, Applebee’s, Culver’s, Daniel Tire, Fareway, Jifi Print, Kemna Auto, JRG, Marco’s Pizza, Maid-Rrte, Nettie’s Restaurant, Papa Murphy’s, Pingle Tyre & Auto Center, Pizza Hut, Racing Unlimited, Shimkat Auto, Subway, Tom Thumb Deli, Troy Waller Auto Body, Walmart, Becker’s Florist, Goodyear, Blue Ribbon Pelham Waters, Diamond Vogel, Health Care Center, Firestone, Fort Dodge Distributing, Ja-Mar’s, Humes Distribution, Fort Dodge Ford and 4th Street Depot
Our league would also like to thank Mike Richardson, Deb Rosco and the Fort Dodge Senior High Band for their help with the event.
The Mid-Iowa Marine Corps League of Fort Dodge welcomes any former or present Marines to join. Meetings are the first Tuesday of every month at the VFW. The next Marine Corps League Steak Fry will be held in April 2014 and is open to the public.
