No. 5 FDSH swept at Waukee
WAUKEE – The fifth-ranked (Class 4A) Fort Dodge baseball team struggled to drive in baserunners here Wednesday night, dropping a doubleheader to Waukee.
Scores were 6-2 and 6-3.
The Dodgers (13-6 overall) left 19 runners on the bases in the two contests combined.
“You just can’t do that against a quality 4A program – especially on the roade,” FDSH head coach Blake Utley said, “especially on the road. We set the table, but we just didn’t execute when we needed to (offensively).”
Austin Halligan went 2-for-3 in the opener.
In the second, Tommy Halligan had two hits and drove in three, while Devon Harms scored twice.
The Warriors are now 13-7.
“We gave them extra outs (in the second game) and allowed three unearned runs,” Utley said.
The Dodgers return to action on Friday at third-ranked West Des Moines Valley.
“This week is a great challenge for us,” Utley said. “At times (on Wednesday) we looked good, and at other times it looks like we are just going through the motions.”
