ALGONA – Eldon (aka “Eldie” or “Lefty”) Winkel passed away on June 16, 2013, at Kossuth Regional Health Center surrounded by his family after an eighteen month courageous battle with pancreatic cancer at the age of 79.
Funeral Mass for Eldon Winkel will be celebrated on Friday, June 21, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Cecelia Catholic Church with Father Edward Girres officiating. Inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, June 20, from 4-8 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 7:30 p.m. followed by a Knights of Columbus Rosary at Oakcrest Funeral Services in Algona.
Eldie will be remembered for his big smile, generosity and love of life. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 56 years, his children Mary (Dean) Golwitzer of Algona, Sheila (Tom) Kockler of Remsen, Rob (Paula) Winkel of Rogers, Arkansas and Dan of Algona. His grandchildren Matt (Jessi) Golwitzer, Nick Golwitzer; Holly, Tanner and Joseph Kockler; Ryan, Tyler, Jacob and Shayla Winkel; Chase, Cade and Angelo Winkel and his great-grandson Grant Golwitzer. His brothers Gordy (Dolores) Winkel of Algona and Art (Marge) Winkel of Centerville, his sisters Helen Gargiulo of Anaheim, CA and Lavonne Henry of Algona.
