Clark does mind waiting patiently

Dallas Clark doesn’t mind the wait.

Since the end of the 2012 NFL season, Clark has been enjoying more free time to spend with his family as he anticipates the next call from an NFL?franchise.

Clark, now a 34-year-old free agent, played last year with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after nine seasons with the Indianapolis Colts.

The Livermore native, Twin River Valley graduate and former Iowa Hawkeye All-American isn’t ready to call himself “retired” just yet, but Clark isn’t interested in pressing the issue right now, either.

“We are just waiting for something to come to the table,” Clark said last Friday before the Dodger athletic golf outing at the Fort Dodge Country Club. “It’s just one of those things that goes with the territory of this business. It’s not happening as quickly as you would like it to, but at the end of the day, they call the shots.

“I just have to wait around and be ready when that call comes. I’m not really concerned about it one way or another to be honest.”

Clark was a member of the Super Bowl XLI champion team from Indianapolis that included Peyton Manning. He made the Pro Bowl and All-Pro teams in 2009, and was named All-American at Iowa prior to entering the NFL draft and being selected in the first round.

While the desire to compete at the highest level remains, Clark is finding it nice to be back in his native surroundings during the summer months – when he is typically preparing more for the upcoming season than anything else.

“It’s fun to be around Iowa and the family this time of year,” he said. “I’m definitely not sitting and staring at my phone waiting (for an NFL team to call).

“I’m just kind of getting my workouts in and enjoying the beautiful rainy season we’ve had (so far this summer).”

Clark has compiled 474 receptions for 5,322 yards and 50 touchdowns in his career.
