Gaels top Algona in baseball
ALGONA – The 10th-ranked (Class 2A) St. Edmond baseball team made it two in a row here Friday, defeating Algona 9-2.
Robert Flattery had three hits and also earned the win on the mound for the Gaels (5-9 overall, 2-5 in North Central Conference). He recorded four strikeouts and walked just two.
“Robert really had a nice outing,” SEHS head coach Joe Shanks said. “He got guys to hit into outs and did a nice job of mixing his speeds.”
St. Edmond scored four runs in the first, taking advantage of several walks to provide Flattery an early lead.
Hank Crimmins drove in two and had two hits, while Brady Reiling plated two and had a double. Jason Setterdahl, Cal Coleman and Michael Sharkey all drove in a run.
The Gaels play five games next week, including four at home. First up is Webster City on Monday night.
