Saying thank you
The generosity that yielded millions of dollars to pay for a new cancer center and other projects at Trinity Regional Medical Center was recognized during a Wednesday evening reception at the Fort Dodge hospital.
The Trinity Foundation had a ”phenomenal year,” Ed Shimkat Jr., the group’s president, told those gathered for the reception, which was attended by about 100 people.
”There’s so much we’ve been able to do because of all of you,” said Shannon McQuillen, the executive director of the foundation.
She said donors to the foundation contributed $5.1 million to help pay for the $8.5 million cancer center that opened Oct. 8, 2012, at the hospital on Kenyon Road. That total exceeded the campaign’s goal, she said.
”It was a pretty monumental campaign for all of us,” McQuillen said.
Sue Thompson, the president and chief executive officer of Trinity Health Systems, thanked the foundation’s donors for their ”ongoing support for the work that we do and for believing in the value of a community hospital.”
”The asset that this community holds in Trinity Regional Medical Center truly holds great hope and promise to secure health care into the future,” she added.
During the Friends of Trinity Appreciation Event, the people who have notified the foundation that they have included a gift for the medical center in their estate plans were recognized. McQuillen said those donors are members of the Oleson Society, which is named after O.M. Oleson and Julie Haskell-Oleson, the first couple that made an estate gift to the hospital in the early 1970s. The society has existed for about five years.
McQuillen announced that Jim and Anita Burr are the newest members of the society. She presented Jim Burr with a commemorative glass decoration to mark their entry into the society. Anita Burr wasn’t present.
Overall, the foundation has about 2,000 donors every year, McQuillen said.
”We have a very generous community with a big heart,” Thompson said following the reception. ”It’s good for the community to aware of the generous heart of these people.”
