No. 6 St. Edmond wins again

EAGLE GROVE – The sixth-ranked (Class 2A) St. Edmond softball team used two huge innings to defeat Eagle Grove here Monday night, 7-1.

Jaci Stumpf, Allie Oberg and Jessica Kuebler all had two hits for the Gaels (10-2 overall, 6-1 in North Central Conference), while Katie Donnelly recorded eight strikeouts and scattered just five hits.

In the second, St. Edmond plated three runs, while they added to the cushion by scoring four more in the sixth.

“We did a good job of coming out and getting on them early,” SEHS head coach Paul Hunt said. “We had some good at-bats.

“But, we really challenged the girls to build that lead, and they responded in the sixth. Maggie Harvey had a big two-out, two-RBI hit.”

Hunt added that he was pleased with the defensive effort, saying “our strategy has been to get ground balls to limit Katie’s pitch count because our defense has been solid behind her.”

The Gaels will look to avenge one of their two losses on Wednesday night when they welcome No. 8 (3A) Iowa Falls-Alden to Rogers Park. First-pitch is set for 7:30 p.m.
