Investigators: Shepard ID is pending

DAYTON – State investigators are awaiting the results of dental comparisons before positively identifying a body found in the Des Moines River in Boone County as missing Dayton teenager Kathlynn Shepard.

Gerard Meyers, assistant director of the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, said Saturday evening that authorities believe the body found Friday is that of Shepard. But he said they are awaiting the results of dental comparsions before making a final identification.

He said an announcement of a final identification may be made Sunday or Monday.
