Eagle Grove woman to be on NPR
EAGLE GROVE – Pam Widick, of Eagle Grove, will appear on National Public Radio’s “Science Friday” at about 1:30 p.m.
According to Sam Smith, Mayo Clinic public affairs director, Widick will appear on the program to talk about the treatment of her rare cancer.
Widick was diagnosed in 2010 with cholangiocarcinoma and given two years to live.
“It’s essentially bile duct cancer,” Smith said. “It has a pretty grim prognosis and she’s receiving treatment. It’s a new kind of treatment for rare and advanced cancer. Technicians dig into her genes to find new cures.”
According to Smith, it’s uncommon for patients to speak about their cases.
“Most people are pretty private about their medical conditions,” he said.
Widick participates in the Relay For Life team Church of Christ.
