Sups talk bank rent
The Webster County Board of Supervisors discussed the terms of creating a lease for Northwest Bank Tuesday.
The bank, which is located in a county-owned building, will lease the facility from Webster County. A proposed leased suggested the bank pay $8,000 per month for the space, located at 723 First Ave. S.
Supervisor Merrill Leffler said he would not be in favor of the proposed agreement as he believes there are issues within the building that should be settled first before creating a lease agreement.
“I would like to take care of anything that needs to be fixed and any other issues that need to be settled with the building before we get into a lease,” said Leffler. “I believe we could get a longer lease if we go month to month.”
Details such as how maintenance of the building will be handled need to be reviewed by the board along with the lease proposed by the Northwest Bank board.
Board Chairman Bob Singer said maintenance in the building is presently handled by the county.
The board decided to table the signing of the lease until details could be further reviewed.
“We need a lease because we don’t have anything at this point,” said Leffler. “I would suggest that our council does not sign the lease today until we have time to go over it. The purpose would be to get a longer lease out them eventually.”
“I would not be in favor of signing anything until our legal has had a chance to review it,” said supervisor Clark Fletcher.
In other business, the board approved a wage increase for Paul Keller, correctional officer to $15.04 per hour effective May 28 and approved the employment of Heather J. Lovain, part-time child care nurse consultant at the rate of $18 per hour effective June 3.
The board also approved the purchase of office equipment for the Webster County Attorney’s Office and heard from Sarah Miller, Community and Family Resources prevention specialist on services provided to the community by CFR.
