Dodger softball sweeps Bobcats
MARSHALLTOWN – The Fort Dodge softball team picked up a conference sweep of Marshalltown Monday night, scoring 7-2 and 4-3 victories.
The Dodgers (7-2 overall, 2-0 in CIC Iowa) racked up 23 hits in the doubleheader, including a six-run third in the opener.
Mallory Kilian had a home run and a two-run bunt single, and also earned the win, striking out six.
Maddie Egli, Madi Bennett and Cassie Tjebben all had two hits.
“We came out and hit the ball really well, driving in runs when we had them on base,” FDSH head coach Andi Adams said. “We got plenty of hits in the second, as well, but just couldn’t drive them in.”
Taylor Messerly, Lani Van Zyl, Bre Ulrich and Tjebben added two hits each in the nightcap.
Meagan Hartman, an eighth-grader, came on in relief of Tjebben and got Fort Dodge out of a bases loaded jam in the sixth.
“We’ve been kind of using Meagan as our closer, and she was great in the role again (Monday),” Adams said. “We just need to continue improving with each game.”
The Dodgers return to action tonight at Rogers Park against Algona. First-pitch is set for 7:30 p.m.
