Dodgers sweep DM North

DES MOINES – Runs came early and often for the Fort Dodge softball team in a doubleheader sweep of Des Moines North Friday night.

The Dodgers (5-0 overall) topped the Polar Bears by scores of 12-0 and 10-5.

Lexi Astor went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs scored, two stolen bases and a RBI in game one.

Mallory Kilian also tallied two hits and two runs, while Becca Sunken hit a two-run longball – the first of her career.

Fort Dodge plated at least one run in all four innings, including five in the first.

In the nightcap, Astor finished 4-for-5 with a run scored, a RBI and two stolen bases.

Madi Bennett added three hits and two runs, while Maddie Bodholdt, Maddie Egli and Bre Ulrich each contributed two hits. Kilian drove in three, and Taylor Messerly and Ulrich both had a pair of RBI.

Kilian (3-0) and Cassie Tjebben (2-0) each picked up wins in the circle. The Dodgers outhit North in the twinbill, 26-8.

“I saw some of the jitters get out, and we pulled together as a team very well,” said FDSH head coach Andi Adams. “We just have to continue to plug away and win every single inning.”
