FDSH girls advance in regional opener
Saving its best for last, the Fort Dodge girls soccer team posted a 2-0 shutout victory over Sioux City North in a Class 3A, Region 2 semifinal Wednesday evening inside Dodger Stadium.
Following a scoreless opening half, the Dodgers (7-9 overall) received goals after the break from juniors Paige Savery and Francis Lee.
“The first half was very shaky and we were a little unorganized, but we regrouped and sorted things out in the second half,” said FDSH co-head coach Lindsay Boeckman. “We just need to continue to work hard and hopefully transfer all the energy over to Monday.”
Putting their three-game winning streak on the line, the Dodgers visit No. 3 Johnston (15-3) on Monday for a 6 p.m. start time. The Dragons advanced last night with a 9-0 blanking of Des Moines East.
In their earlier meeting this season, Johnston rolled to an 8-0 victory over Fort Dodge.
