HARCOURT – Elvin L. Sytsma, age 78, passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at his home. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at St. Joseph Church, Lohrville with Fr. Lynn Bruch officiating at Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in the Lost Grove Township Cemetery, Harcourt. Friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Palmer Funeral Home in Gowrie, with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Sytsma of Harcourt; daughter, Kim Breen (Dan) of Brillion, WI; daughter, Kris Atkins of Brentwood, TN; son, Kevin Sytsma (Mi) of North Las Vegas, NV; daughter, Karen Sandberg (Jim) of Harcourt; daughter, Kendra Sytsma of Brentwood, TN; and son, Keith Sytsma (Dena) of Harcourt; eight grandchildren, Erin Breen, Amanda Herr, Evan Atkins, Stephanie Neuharth, Andrew Sytsma, Dillon Sytsma, Samuel Sytsma, and Emma Sytsma; sister, Donna Sytsma of Ottumwa; and sister-in-law, Lillian Hoover of Ft. Dodge. Preceding him in death are his parents, Andrew and Eva (Miller) Sytsma and brother, Floyd Hoover.

Elvin Lee Sytsma was born on April 1, 1935 at Albia, Iowa and graduated from Harcourt High School in 1953. He was united in marriage with Phyllis Ehrhardt on August 8, 1959 in Dayton. Elvin was employed for Land-O-Lakes in Ft. Dodge for over 40 years. After retirement, he drove truck for Rollie Gustafson and Shannon and Scott Miller.
