LAKE CITY – Faye Iona Groves passed away at Shady Oaks Care Center in Lake City at the age of 92 on Saturday, May 25, 2013. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at Lampe Funeral Home in Lake City with Pastor Katie Carlson officiating. Burial will be in the Lake City Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Lampe Funeral Home in Lake City.

Faye, daughter of Gertie “Betty” (DeSart) and Ed Groves was born on December 30, 1920 at her Aunt Edna and Uncle Hig Higgins’ home in Lake City, Iowa. Betty was at her sister’s making clothes for the baby when Faye decided to arrive. Faye had one older brother, Garth Groves.

Faye lived on a farm east and south of Lake City. She went to country school for eight years then to Lake City High School for four years.

Faye worked different places from 1938 to December 2012. She worked as a cook, sat bowling pins, waitress, clerk in grocery stores, clerk in Iowa Liquor Store in Lake City, house cleaning, and Site Manager at Senior Citizen Center. She was a member of the Lake City V.F.W. Auxiliary for over 50 years and served as its Treasurer.

Faye enjoyed playing cards and board games, bowling, dancing, and helping with church activities.

Faye is survived by her son, Melvin (Donna) Thompson of Belton, MO. Two daughters, Barbara (Ray Dean) Garnatz of Spencer, IA, and Mary Anne (Denny) Baer of Marshalltown, IA.8 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren and 1 to arrive in June 2013. She was preceded in death by her parents, Betty and Ed Groves, brother, Garth Groves, and grandson, David Baer.
